Third Grade
March 03, 2023

Happy March, Families! Our scholars have been working hard in Third Grade. We recently had a writing celebration where the kiddos got a chance to share their research books with their peers. It was their first time using google slides in the classroom and, I can say, they had a blast! We truly are becoming the best readers, writers, mathematicians, historians, and scientists that we can be!

Language Arts

What are we learning?

  • Biographies, Autobiographies, and Realistic Fiction- Students will learn about famous people through those people’s words. They will also learn to write a story that is based on real issues that people face.

Home/School Connection

  • Have your student discover a famous person of their choice and read autobiographies by them.
  • Have your child write a story based on losing a friend or growing up.

Math

What are we learning?

  • Measurement-Students will learn how to measure length, volume, area, and perimeter.
  • Fractions-Students will learn to add and subtract fractions with the same denominator.

Home/School Connection

  • Have your child help you cook and measure out ingredients. This will help with their measurement and fraction skills.
  • Try having your child double a recipe, or cut it in half. This will help with the student’s knowledge of adding and subtracting fractions in real-time.

Science

What are we learning?

  • Soils-Students will learn about the importance of the soil around us and how it aids the plants that grow on our planet.

Home/School Connection

  • As the temperatures continue to rise, consider having your child garden outside your home, and plant food, or flowers. Talk about the importance of keeping the soil damp and buying the right kind of soil.

Social Studies

What are we learning?

  • Ancient Greece-Students will continue to look at the important contributions this civilization made to our current way of life.

Home/School Connection

  • Take your child to Washington DC and explain how much of the architecture is taken from Greek architecture.
