What are the new big concepts for your grade level this year?

• First graders will learn how to read!
• We will focus on adding and subtracting within 20.
• Our science units will focus on plants, animals, weather, and making observations as a scientist.
• In social studies, we will focus on being ethical and global citizens and building relationships.

Our school is focusing on the Portrait Of a Graduate Communicator skill– how might your team teach/use this skill this year? 

• First graders will practice being communicators by embedding the skill in our curriculum and teaching.
• First grade is working on initiating conversation and speaking in complete sentences. 

What is your team most looking forward to this year?

• Our first grade team is looking forward to making connections and building relationships within the classroom and school community! 

Advice for families to help your student succeed in and outside of the classroom. 

• Please try to read with your child daily for at least thirty minutes, when possible!
• Please practice tying shoes with your child at home. 
• We love communication!
• Please check your child’s folders regularly.
