Music
The sound of music is alive at Bucknell!
The Music Department at Bucknell ES emphasizes Portrait of a Graduate attributes by encouraging students to become musical critical thinkers, creative problem solvers, and effective communicators. Children can express themselves and gain a sense of success through music education. Children who take music classes develop their teamwork skills. Children who learn an instrument in a group environment learn how to collaborate with others to produce amazing things.
My goal in music is for students to enjoy and have fun with music. I want students to learn the fundamentals of singing, playing instruments, moving to the rhythm of music, reading and writing music creatively, and critically listening to music. Students develop proper singing techniques from kindergarten through sixth grade. Students have fun playing instruments like the recorder, xylophones, and metallophones, and classroom percussion instruments like the hand drums, triangle, guiro, claves, and rhythm sticks. All students learn to read music and develop an appreciation for all types of music and cultures. Students are assessed according to FCPS music categories of singing, playing instruments, movement, literacy, and response to music.
The Bucknell ES Chorus is made up of fifth and sixth-grade students each year. The chorus has two scheduled performances this year. The chorus will perform at the annual West Potomac Pyramid Elementary, Middle and High School chorus concert. That concert will be held at West Potomac High School on November 14, 2023, at 7 p.m.
The Bucknell ES Chorus will also perform its annual Winter Concert in the Bucknell ES gymnasium on December 13, 2023, at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. for parents.
