What are we learning?

Language Arts

• Students will become experts in sounds in one-syllable words and they will also use sounds to recognize & read words.   
• Students will develop vocabulary and make predictions by listening to and reading books.  
• Students will identify characters, setting, and important events

Math

• Students will be introduced to addition and subtraction. 
• Students will create math story and picture problems using addition and subtraction within 10. 
• Students will recognize and describe addition relationships for numbers up to 10.
• Students will understand equality and will use the equal sign

Science

• Students will learn about scientific and engineering practices.  
• Students will learn about the physical properties of materials. 
• Students investigate and understand plants and Animals, as well as their functions. 
•  

Social Studies

• The students will discover important places in Virginia, on maps and globes
• The students will recognize American symbols and traditional practices as well as Virginia traditions. 
• The students will understand that American people have ethnic origins, customs, and traditions.
