What are we learning?
Language Arts
- Writing: Students are learning to write persuasive letters to help make the world a better place. In our next unit, students will study the writing of mentor authors and think carefully about the decisions they make in their own writing pieces.
- Reading: Students are learning to think critically about the texts they read. In our next unit, students will be in book clubs; they will work as a group to read and discuss a shared text.
- Phonics: Students are learning about vowel teams, contractions, and three-letter blends throughout the month.
Math
- Students are learning to add and subtract two-digit numbers. They are also learning to understand and solve two-step word problems.
- In our next unit, students will learn about geometric shapes and lines of symmetry.
Science
- Students are learning about matter and forces.
- In our next unit, students will revisit their study of monarch butterflies, including their life cycles and changes in habitat.
Social Studies
- Students will learn about natural resources, human resources, and capital resources.
- Students will also learn about the contributions of early Americans.
Questions to ask your child at home.
- What is something you feel strongly about, something that could make the world a better place?
- What read-aloud is your class reading this week? What is it about? What is a message or lesson from the book?
- What strategies do you use when you solve an addition problem or a subtraction problem?
- What is ___ + ___? What is ___ - ___? (using two-digit numbers)
- What can you teach me about forces like pushes, pulls, gravity, and magnetism?
