What are we learning?

Language Arts

  • We are working on attacking the genre when reading fictional text (S.T.O.R.Y) and non-fictional text (I.N.F.O). This helps with reading comprehension.
  • We are learning how to respond to a writing prompt when given an article

Math

  • We have started a new unit on measurement! We are learning about metric length, mass, liquid capacity, elapsed time, area and perimeter
  • We are learning how to estimate measurement and how to convert from one unit to another

Science

  • We did really well on our Magnetism & Electricity Unit!
  • We are about to begin our final unit about Light & Sound
  • We will be learning about the basic characteristics of visible light, the colors of the visible spectrum, the terms opaque, transparent, and translucent, the prism effect on white light, the parts of transverse waves, and more!

Social Studies

  • We have begun our content area research with the GATP (Global Awareness Technology Project)
  • For the project, students are asked to choose and answer an essential question about the cultures of the world. Technology is used for research, gathering data, and/or communicating the information.

SEL Unit: Empathy

  • We have started our next SEL unit on Empathy. Here are some questions you can ask your child at home:
    • Why is empathy important in our relationships with others?
    • Can you think of a time when someone showed empathy towards you?
    • How can we practice empathy in our daily lives?
    • What are some challenges we might face when trying to empathize with others, and how can we overcome them?
