Important Dates & Reminders

What are we learning?

Language Arts

  • In language arts, the 6th grade just completed our investigative journalism unit. Students had the opportunity to interview other students and staff here at Bucknell to investigate an issue further. Some of the topics were “Should 6th grade have an organized soccer team?” and “Should students have more free time built into the daily schedule at school”. The students did a great job on this unit and we have a class magazine full of investigative journalism writing now. Our next unit will be a research project where students will ultimately write a paper on their topic.

Math

  • In math, 6th-grade students just wrapped up our unit on congruency and coordinate planes. The sixth graders practiced plotting ordered pairs on a coordinate plane and also dove deeper into geometric shapes and their characteristics. We are now moving into the order of operations and solving algebraic equations.

Science

  • In science, 6th-grade students just finished a unit on our atmosphere. We finished off the unit with extreme weather and what causes it. Our next unit will be on H2O (water). We will begin that unit in two weeks.

Social Studies

  • In social studies, 6th graders are learning about post Revolutionary War era in America. We are going to be studying the first five presidents which will also tie into their Language arts unit this quarter. We started the unit focusing on the weaknesses in the Articles of the Confederation and will move into the process of building a nation and national government.

Questions to ask your child at home.

  • Who are the first five presidents of the United States?
  • Where in real life might you use a coordinate plane? (video gaming)
  • What extreme weather event did you choose to research and why?
