In language arts, 6th graders have been working on content research. Students chose their own topics to research and gather information on. Students then filled out graphic organizers and are now working on a presentation of their information. Students have enjoyed learning about a new topic they didn’t know much about.
Our next unit begins next week. Students will be reading a historical fiction book and completing various activities associated with their books.
Math
In math, 6th-grade students have been working on basic concepts of algebra. They have explored how to find the value of an unknown (x). Students have also learned about the order of operations to use when solving problems with more than one math computation presented. Students are moving into learning about inequalities including solving and graphing inequalities.
Our next unit will begin next week. Students will be learning about proportional relationships including unit rate. Students will use their basic ratio understanding to learn about unit rates and proportions.
Science
In science, 6th-grade students have been learning all about water. Students have looked at the properties of water and done several experiments involving water. Students will have an opportunity to test our water right here at school to see what is in our water.
Social Studies
Our focus this quarter has been on science. Social students will begin again in two weeks.
