Questions to ask your child at home.

6th graders aren’t always excited to share information with parents. General questions like “What did you learn today?” or “How was your day?” often lead to one word answers. Instead try to be more specific. Try to have a conversation instead of an interrogation. Here are some suggestions.

  • What is one new thing you learned in math today?
  • What was the best moment of your day? Why?
  • What was the worst moment of your day? Why?
  • Who did you play with during recess? What did you do?
  • What do you wonder about when looking at the night sky?
  • What did you learn in ELA today?
