5th Grade Newsletter
Parents thank you for all of the support you have given this school year! The students have shown so much growth academically, socially, and personally. Please encourage them to continue working hard! Only a couple of months left until the end! Keep up the amazing work.

What are we learning?
- Content Area Research
- Students are integrating conducting and citing research with their GAPT project
Home/School Connection
- It is encouraged for students to log onto Lexia each night for at least 20-30 minutes to work towards their units for the week. Homework packets are sent home weekly for additional practice. We encourage students to complete a few problems each night.
Math
What are we learning?
- Geometry
- Identify and describe the diameter, radius, chord, and circumference of a circle.
- Classify and measure right, acute, obtuse, and straight angles.
- Classify triangles as right, acute, or obtuse and equilateral, scalene, or isosceles.
- Investigate the sum of the interior angles in a triangle and determine an unknown angle measure.
- Recognize and apply transformations, such as translation, reflection, and rotation.
- Investigate and describe the results of combining and subdividing polygons.

What are we learning?
- Light & Sound
- Investigate and understand that sound can be produced and transmitted.
- Investigate and understand that visible light has certain characteristics and behaves in predictable ways.
- Investigate and understand that matter has properties and interactions.
Home/School Connection
- Students may log onto SOL Pass to complete games or activities under 5th grade science.
Social Studies
What are we learning?
- Global Awareness Technology Project (GATP)- In-class research project
- Students are asked to choose and answer an essential question about the cultures of the world. Technology is used for research, gathering data, and/or communicating information. Finally, students complete a project showing knowledge gained.
