Language Arts

What are we learning?

  • Students will participate in frequent oral language activities through choral speaking and the reciting of poems and stories with repeated patterns.
  • apply knowledge of the consonant-vowel patterns, such as CV (e.g., go), VC (e.g., in), CVC (e.g., pin), CVCE (e.g., take), CVVC (e.g., wait), and CVCC (e.g., wind) to decode and spell words.
  • Poets can write about anything: feelings, important people, fun things

Home/School Connection

Listen to music and poetry at home and ask questions:

  • How did the poem/song make you feel?
  • What did you visualize (see) when you heard the poem?
  • What is the theme of the poem?
  • What did the author want you to know?

Have students write songs or poems about winter or the world around them.

Math

What are we learning?

  • Estimating the sums and differences
  • Addition with 2 digit regrouping
  • Subtraction with 2 digit regrouping
  • Solving 2 step word problems

Home/School Connection

  • Students can write and create their own word problems for family to solve on Home School Math.

Science

What are we learning?

Weather

  • Measuring, recording, and interpreting weather data allows for
  • identification of weather patterns and to prepare for weather and storms.
  • Different types of storms have specific characteristics that can be used to identify them.
