Happy December! We hope you are excited for the holiday season and the new year. We have had a great month with your children. Here is what we are up to this month:

Important Dates & Reminders

 

  • Winter Break: December 19- January 2nd 
  • End of 2nd Quarter: January 25th 

Please make sure to practice zipping up jackets and tying shoes with your child. If your child needs a winter jacket or other weather accessories please reach out to your child’s teacher, we have extras!

Language Arts

What are we learning?

  • We are learning about consonants vs vowels. 
  • We are learning about nonfiction books. 
  • We are learning about rhyming words.
  • We are learning about blending CVC words.
  • We are learning how to read and write high frequency words.

Home/School Connection

  • When reading you can ask your student to guess the word by looking at the first sound and using the picture to help.
  • Ask your child to identify sight words in the texts they see.
  • When listening to music with your child, ask them to listen for rhyming words.

Math

What are we learning?

  • We are learning about counting backwards from ten.
  • We are learning how to read and write numbers 0-20.
  • We are learning how to count from 1-31.
  • We are learning how to count a set of objects.

Home/School Connection

  • Use a family calendar and show your child the date. Practice counting down to winter break or the new year. 
  • Practice counting in the kitchen or cooking with your child. Have them count silverware, pasta noodles, cans of food, etc. 
  • Encourage students to number items on your grocery list or to do list.

Science

What are we learning?

  • We are learning about wants vs needs.

Home/School Connection

  • Talk to your child about things in your life that you want vs you need.
  • Ask your child what humans need in their daily lives.

Social Studies

What are we learning?

  • We are learning about the difference between maps vs globes. 
  • We are learning about holidays around the world.

Home/School Connection

  • Explore Google Earth with your child and look at places they are familiar with or places they would like. Have them point out land vs water.
