November Library Stats

Home/School Connection
- In November, we disguised turkeys so they could avoid becoming dinner.
- We read about family and our five senses.
- We are learning how to be good communicators by asking questions and listening to understand with Ada Twist.
- We estimated candy pumpkins and wrote grateful notes to our teachers. It was a quick but busy month!

STEAM with Ms. Simonds
What are we learning?
- Kindergarten has been busy reading different stories about leaves and squirrels and completing different engineering challenges. They created houses for squirrels to live in using Keva Planks.
- First graders were introduced to Scratch Jr. to learn some coding skills. They also read the book The Table and were challenged to design a table that could stand up on its own and could fit four people around it.
- Second graders created American flags to honor veterans for Veterans Day. They also watched some of the Macy’s Day Parade and designed their own balloon floats and had a parade!
- In third grade, students created American flags to honor veterans for Veterans Day. They also designed a trap to catch a turkey and learned all about pulleys.
- Fourth and fifth graders have been learning about flowers and pollination. They will be creating hand pollinators to pollinate flowers. They will be experimenting with different materials to see which one would transfer pollen. Fourth graders also read The Poppy Lady and created poppy flowers to honor the veterans.
- Our sixth graders experimented with Strawbees and created 3d shapes. They are now designing and creating their own arcade games after watching Caine’s Arcade.
- The Robotics team competed at Hayfield High School On November 19th and showed off their robots they built and their coding skills!

What are we learning?
The Month of November was filled with lots of fun projects most of which have involved lots of glue and paper!
- Kindergarten completed robot collages.
- 1st grade created paper collage masks of a family pet.
- 2nd grade started on their community street collages.
- 3rd grade has been working hard to learn about abstract art and creating abstract collages.
- 4th grade have been using their inventive minds to design their own time machines.
- 5th grade have made some spiral sculptures .
- Lastly, 6th has been working hard on sculptures made out of cardboard and other recycled materials.
We will be finishing up most of these projects for the beginning of December and be starting something new soon!
