Language Arts

What are we learning?

In language arts, we just finished our unit on poetry. Students learned to read and write poetry using figurative language. We are beginning our content research project. Students are choosing one of the first five presidents of the United States and researching that person.

  • What type of poem did you enjoy writing most?
  • Which president did you choose to research?

Math

What are we learning?

In math, students just finished unit 5 over coordinate planes and congruent shapes. Students learned how to plot ordered pairs on a coordinate plane. We also learned about different types of polygons. We began unit 6 this week. We are learning about algebraic expressions and equations. We have heavily focused on the vocabulary associated with algebra.

  • What is a variable in an algebraic expression?

Science

What are we learning?

In science, we are learning about H2O and the components that make up water. We will be analyzing different data graphs as well as doing science labs involving water.

  • How clean do you think the water is in the Chesapeake Bay? 
  • What percentage of water is available for human use?

Social Studies

What are we learning?

In social studies, students just finished learning about colonial life. We will be spending February diving deeper into science.
