Library with Mrs. Ames

What are we learning?

  • We are always continuing to work on our POG Trait:  Communicator.  We ask questions about what books make us think of, or what does it remind us of?
  • In February we will estimate gummy X’s and O’s
  • We will celebrate and honor Black History Month.

Home/School Connection

  • When you read or have experiences, make connections with other books or experiences.
  • Practice estimation at home with food or out in the world with large quantities.  What guess will be obviously too low?  Too high?  Just right?
  • Log into MyON and enjoy stories online.  Think about which leaders inspire you.Black History Month Recommended Reading

  • In the month of February kindergarten will be learning about shadows for Groundhog’s Day and completing some different experiments about motion and pushes and pulls.

  • Third grade will be learning about some famous African Americans scientists and engineers such as Mary Jackson (first African American female engineer to work at NASA, Katherine Johnson who  figured out the paths for the spacecraft to orbit (go around) Earth and to land on the Moon, and Mae Jemison the first African American woman to become an astronaut.  They will be working on an engineering challenge to build a rocket. Students will also get to use our brand new Lego Robotics kits and learn how to code.
  • Fourth grade will be  some working on learning about the Scientific method and will participate in some science experiments and learning about what independent and dependent variables are.

Art with Ms. Anderson

What are we learning?

Bucknell’s little artists have been working so hard this past month and are finishing up some cool creations!

  • Kindergarten finished up creating their rainbows. They painted each color, cut and glued it all together.
  • 1st grade have been extremely focused and finally completed their Trees through the Seasons project. They painted a painting of a tree in Spring, Summer, Fall, and Winter! These will be showcased in the Cafeteria soon.
  • 2nd grade has been learning how to mix colors and are now starting on creating paintings of animals in their community.
  • 3rd graders have also been learning about how to mix colors and, more specifically, how to mix different skin tone shades with paint. They will be using this new knowledge to create paintings about friendship in the next month.
  • 4th grade just completed the building part of their clay project. They created relief sculptures inspired by artwork called the Tree of Life.
  • 5th grade started clay this past month and have been working to create a vessel in the shape of an endangered animal of their choosing.
  • Lastly, 6th grade just finished building some funky facial expressions on their clay pots and will be starting a painting project as the pots head into the kiln.
