STEAM with Ms. Simonds

What are we learning?

  • Kindergarten and first graders are off to a spooktacular start in STEAM. We have been busy reading different stories about pumpkins and completing different engineering challenges.
  • Second graders have been focused on Introduction to Computer Sciences, learning about how to code our wonderful robots.
  • In third grade, we are extending our classroom science lessons on animal adaptations. The students are creating animals with both physical and behavioral adaptations. Our third graders are also being introduced to computer science by programming robots to operate.
  • Fourth and fifth graders have been performing experiments to learn about Virginia’s natural resources this reinforces lessons they are currently learning in their
  • general science classrooms. Scientific investigation and the scientific process are so much fun.
  • Our sixth graders have been studying aerospace and aeronautics. They are researching and studying rockets in order to build a rocket that conforms to scientific properties.
  • We are also busy learning to code our brand new Lego Spike Prime Robots for our two competition teams that will be competing in November. Stayed tuned in future months to learn how your students will be able to compete next year.
  • Our STEAM program is off to an amazing start and we have many fun and educational activities planned to awaken our students’ imaginations.

Art with Ms. Anderson

What are we learning?

From the beginning of the year to now, K-3rd graders have been hard at work to create portraits surrounding ideas of culture, family, community, and self. Students in 5th-6th have been creating collages about places around the world and about themselves. Lastly, 4th graders have learned about how to draw people in motion and then created sculptures to go with these!
