Welcome Message

  • We are beginning the 3rd quarter of the school year! During the third quarter, children construct an understanding of the theme, Who I am in My Community.  Children begin this inquiry into the theme by understanding what their community looks like and how the pieces of their community fit into their lives. we will begin learning about geography and community by creating maps and looking at different members of the community.

What are we learning?

Themes

  • Maps/Geography/Community

What Students Will Learn

  • Maps are pictures of places and show things in smaller sizes.
  • We use maps to find different places.
  • There are people in our community whose job is to help us.

Language Arts

  • Identify and name some letters of the alphabet
  • Begin to use words to describe/name people, places, and things
  • Use drawing, scribbling, shapes, or letters to describe pictures or experiences

Numeracy

  • Recognize and select numerals to represent numbers from 1-10
  • Begin to compare the size (smaller, larger) and shape of two plane figures (circle, triangle, square, and rectangle)

Social Studies

  • Begin exploring maps to develop an understanding of the community

Science

  • Investigate objects from multiple positions to achieve different perspectives

Learning Activities for Home

  • Daily reading 10 mins/ draw a picture with caregivers
  • Draw a map of your home with caregivers
  • Write a Valentin card to grandparents and send it to a post office
  • Name capital alphabet letters
  • Math practice- scavenge hunt shapes around the house; Let your child find plane figures

Self-help and Advocacy

  • I can wear my clothing/Jacket. 
  • I can say ‘Help me, please’ when needed. 
  • I can wash my hands.

Health and Safety

  • keep your child home when h/she has a fever, constant coughing, is exposed to COVID-19, is asymptomatic, or has any other sickness: Fever equal to/ greater than 100.4 F/ Vomiting/ Diarrhea/ shortness of breath, fatigue, feverish and chill, etc.

Transportation

  • If a student’s bus is delayed, contact the Transportation Office at 703-446-2150.  For any concerns after hours (after 5:30 p.m.), contact Safety and Security at 571-423-2000.

Colder Weather = Warmer Clothes

  • Please send students with jackets/sweatshirts for school. The weather turns colder over the next few weeks and we finally welcome some winter temps. We still plan to maximize our time outside. Students will be more comfortable if wearing the right attire. Thank you in advance for helping your child stay warm!
