What are we learning?

PE

  • K through 6 grades are continuing throwing and catching activities.

Music

  • Our BES fourth-grade students had a great time on their field trip to the Kennedy Center to hear the National Symphony Orchestra on October 17, 2023.

STEAM

  • K’s and 1’s are currently creating Lego characters to program a trash/recycling story that takes place at the Zoo.
  • 2nd grade performed a play titled, “Honey Brook Farm Apple Orchard” in the STEAM room.
  • 3rd grade learned to stay on a budget while  ‘purchasing’ items for their Ladybug contraptions.
  • 4th- and 5th-grade students have been  thinking about Virginia’s Ecosystem (specifically, the Chesapeake Bay) by reading and discussing an article titled,  ‘Habitat Loss.’
  • 6th Grade is finding the area and volume of the STEAM classroom to determine how large the crater of Alabraska (a fictional state) will need to be in order to fit its population of 10 million people.

Library

  • Please continue to send in Storybook Pumpkins for our patch!  See some creative entries below….

Band/Strings

  • Band and strings students are continuing to work on proper position and posture, developing a good sound, and reading and playing notes and rhythms.
  • 4th graders recently attended a concert with the National Symphony Orchestra at the Kennedy Center and are making connections between professional musicians and their own playing.
  • Any assistance parents can provide to their children as they remember to bring their instruments (Tuesday or Wednesday for strings, Wednesday or Friday for band) is appreciated.
