English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL)
Bucknell boasts a student and faculty population that would remind one of the United Nations. Countries represented in our school include: Afganistan, Bolivia, Colombia, Chile, El Salvador, Ethiopia, Ecuador, Ghana, Guatemala, India, Iran, Jamaica, Kenya, Korea, Laos, Liberia, Mexico, Morocco, Nicaragua, Pakistan, Panama, Peru, Philippines, Puerto Rico, Turkey, United States, Vietnam, the Virgin Islands (and many more are being added frequently!). Obviously one can appreciate the indispensability of our two ESOL teachers.
The Instructional Program offers:
Encouragement | Encourages participation of students and their families within the school community. |
---|---|
Support | Creates a supportive learning environment. Builds connections between ESOL and school-wide instructional programs. |
Opportunities | Values and builds upon students' academic, linguistic, and cultural backgrounds. Fosters understanding and appreciation of diverse populations within the school community. |
Learning | Assists students in reaching their full academic potential. |
