Dear Bucknell Elementary School Staff, Parents, and Community: 

The Region 3 Leadership Team is pleased to announce that Ms. Rashida Green has been appointed as principal of Bucknell Elementary School (ES), effective Monday, March 7, 2022. 

Ms. Green has over 18 years of educational experience, 13 of those years within Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS), and brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the principalship. Ms. Green is currently the assistant principal at Forestdale ES where she has served for the past year and a half.  Prior to her time at Forestdale ES, Ms. Green served as an assistant principal at Willow Springs ES for three years.  Prior to her administrative experience, Ms. Green served as both a division level coach and school based instructional coach for three years at Mount Vernon High School and Centreville High School (HS), respectively.  Before that, she taught English at Mount Vernon HS and at Francis C. Hammond MS in Alexandria City Public Schools and has served as an administrative intern in the Extended School Year (ESY) in FCPS.

Ms. Green is a highly skilled leader who focuses on using data to address all students by name and by need.  Her varied experiences as an assistant principal and instructional coach allow her to leverage high level strategies and central office resources to maintain a consistently high level of instruction.  Her development of collaborative teams and the school planning process ensures that goals are data driven and have clearly defined learning targets focused on specific student needs. Ms. Green’s skills in building relationships allow her to connect with both students as well as families.  She has extensive experience leading professional development and facilitating adult learning and has been sought out to lead and chair many courses and programs in developing the capacity of others.

Ms. Green is a transparent leader who is visible and approachable.  She values collaboration, equity, communication, and action and is committed to establishing relationships with all stakeholders. During her tenure at both Forestdale ES and Willow Springs ES, Ms. Green worked collaboratively with school teams to strengthen family engagement by reducing barriers and building connections with the school community.

Ms. Green earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in English and her Master of Teaching, Grades 7-12, Certification in English Education from the University of Virginia.  She earned a Master’s Degree in Curriculum and Instruction, Gifted Child Endorsement from George Mason University.  She earned her administrative degree through the LEAD Fairfax Accelerated Certification Cohort from the University of Virginia.  She holds her Virginia Postgraduate Professional License in Administration and Supervision.
