4th Grade Newsletter
Hi 4th grade families! We are so excited for our Jamestown field trip! It will be a great learning experience for your students and we can’t wait to share it with them!

Language Arts
What are we learning?
- We will begin to prepare for the reading SOL test. We will review nonfiction and fiction. We will make inferences, draw conclusions, sequence and summarize both fiction and nonfiction texts.
Home/School Connection
- It is encouraged for students to read at least 20 minutes nightly. Ask your student to summarize what they are reading.
Math
What are we learning?
- Fractions Part 2 - We will be adding and subtracting fractions with like and unlike denominators.
Home/School Connection
- Talk to your student about where they see fractions in their daily lives. Students can also work on the fractions choice board on Schoology.
Science
What are we learning?
We will be starting our solar system unit.
Home/School Connection
Look at the moon each night. Your student can draw what the moon looks like each night and you can talk to them about the different phases.
Social Studies
What are we learning?
We will begin learning about the Revolutionary War - the causes, important people and battles, and the outcome.
Home/School Connection
Ask students about what they are learning in social studies and how it is different from their lives today.
