What are we learning?

Language Arts

• We are focusing on elements of fictional text such as:
  • Character traits
  • Conflict and resolution
  • Summarizing
• Next, we will be covering poems and focusing on:
  • Literary devices and poetic language (similes, metaphors)
  • Poem structure (Stanzas, lines, etc.)
  • Understanding the meaning/ purpose of a poem

Math

• We are focusing on adding, subtracting, and rounding up to the 10,000s
• Next, we will be covering fractions.

Science

• We will be learning about Virginia Ecosystems and covering topics such as:
  • Rocks, minerals, and other natural resources
  • Parts of an ecosystem (e.g.community, population, organism)
  • Niches, or jobs, organisms play within their environment (e.g. producer, consumer, decomposer)

Social Studies

• We are focusing on Virginia’s Geography
• Next, we will be learning about the people indigenous to Virginia

• “How can rounding be useful in everyday life?”
• “Why is it important to understand the geography of places around you?”

Second Step

• Beginning October 16, 2023, we will implement a social-emotional learning curriculum called Second Step.
