What are we learning?
Language Arts
In language arts, sixth grade has been working on writing literary nonfiction children's books. We will be sharing our books with our preschool reading buddies.
We have also been working on comprehension skills for nonfiction text. Students have been working on main idea, supporting details, fact and opinion, cause and effect and other reading skills that help with comprehension.
Math
In math, sixth grade has been working on comparing and ordering integers (positive and negative whole numbers). Students have also been reviewing fractions, decimals, and percents to prepare for their upcoming assessment involving comparing and ordering fractions, decimals, and percents.
Students have also been working with exponents and learning about the absolute value of a number.
Science
Students have been focusing on social studies for the first half of quarter two. Science will begin the second half of quarter two.
Social Studies
In social studies, students have been learning about early exploration and the motives for exploring as well as the problems early explorers faced.
Students then began learning about settling in the 13 colonies. Students learned about early trading among the colonies.
Finally, students learned about the different classes of people in the colonies and how life looked different for each group of people in the colonies.
