What are we learning?

- Describing a Character in Depth
- Summarizing a Text
- Comparing and Contrasting Themes in Stories
- Using Words That Signal Actions, Emotions, and States of Being
- Writing an Opinion Essay
- Using Words and Phrases for Effect
- Using Modal Auxiliaries

- Using Pronoun/Antecedent Agreement
Math
- The students are learning about proper and improper fractions. They will be able to order and compare fractions by the end of this unit.
Science
- The first two quarters of the school year are focused on Virginia ecosystems. The students have taken their assessment on lessons 1-6 and will take another one after lesson 11.
Questions to ask your child at home.
- Can you use a modal auxiliary verb to explain what you want to do?
- Examples: We should go to Five Below on Saturday. We must have ice cream after dinner.
- What’s your opinion about ____? Provide reasons for that opinion.
- How can you prove that ____ is bigger/smaller than ___? (insert fractions into blank spaces)
Student Expectations Rubric
- Beginning in Quarter 2, the fourth grade classes will follow a "Student Expectations Rubric" to ensure that students are clear on what's expected of them during the school day. A screenshot of the daily score (1-4) will be posted to Talking Points so that families are aware of the progress with these expectations.
- If classes earn a 1-2 for their daily score, families will get a message about the areas of need from the day.
- If classes earn a 3 or 4 for their daily score, families will get a positive message and students will earn rewards such as taking home laptops, having recess on the baseball field, and partner reading.
