Important Dates & Reminders

  • Clubs end the week of December 2-6.
  • Remind students to wear or bring athletic shoes on PE days.

What are we learning?

Language Arts

  • In language arts, they are learning about the text “Queen Elizabeth I of England” and what makes her a very important historical figure.
  • They are learning about Democracy and Monarchy while analyzing a text
  • They are discussing figurative language used in the text and explaining what it means. 
  • We are integrating information from one text to another. Comparing the details of the text “Aristotle and Democracy” and the text “Queen Elizabeth I of England”

Math

  • 6th grade math is learning about coordinate grids including positive and negative numbers on the axes. They are also learning about congruence and lines of symmetry in geometric figures.
  • After Thanksgiving 6th grade math will start a unit on integer operations adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing positive and negative numbers.
  • 7th grade math is learning to solve algebraic equations by isolating the variable using inverse operations.
  • They will continue this work after Thanksgiving by solving inequalities.

Science

  • Science is paused while we focus on social studies and health.
  • When science resumes we will learn about weather.

Social Studies

  • Students are learning about European exploration and colonization of North America.
  • We have focused on interactions with the people already living in North America when they arrived, including examples of cooperation and conflict.
  • We will next explore the period of time leading up to the American Revolution.

Questions to ask your child at home.

  • What is the difference between horizontal and vertical lines?
  • How does an ordered pair give directions to a point on a coordinate plane?
  • Why do people explore lands other than their own?
  • What impacts did European colonization have on the people living in North and South America?
  • What have you learned in health about the impact of smoking (nicotine) and other addictive drugs?
