Mr. Flaherty joined Bucknell ES in 2022 as an ESOL teacher. He is currently serving as our ESOL Lead teacher. Prior to joining Bucknell, he was teaching ESOL at Alexandria City High School. He's also instructed ESL to adults at Northern Virginia Community College, Middle School Humanities, Elementary ESOL, as well as Middle and high School Social Studies. He's originally from Northeastern Pennsylvania where he lived, went to school, and worked until 2015 when he relocated to Alexandria. In addition, he lived abroad in Lima, Perú, from 2019 to 2021 before moving back to Alexandria in 2021. Mr. Flaherty has obtained a Certificate in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (CELTA) through Cambridge English, a Master of Education in Curriculum and Instruction from King's College (PA), and a Bachelor of Science in Education from Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania. In his spare time he enjoys gardening, watching movies, and cooking with his wife Ximena. They also spend time with their three fur children Odin (GSD), Neo (Cat), and JiJi (Cat). His hobbies include playing video games, playing bass guitar, running, as well as watching and playing soccer.
